Disability Awareness Week

Disability Awareness Week is held at the end of May or early June to coincide with the National Accessibility Week.

This year we will be hosting the Accessibility Impact Awards 2023 on June 2nd by invitation only.

We will be having three awards during this invitation event:

The Minister Responsible for Persons with Disabilities’ Award for Accessibility and Inclusion - The Government of the Northwest Territories Minister Responsible for Persons with Disabilities Award for Accessibility and Inclusion is given to a volunteer, community member or business in recognition of their contribution to making the Northwest Territories a more accessible and inclusive Territory.

 The NWT Disabilities Council Community Champion Award - This Award is presented by the NWT Disabilities Council to a person or group that has made a significant on-going contribution, as a volunteer, to improving life for persons living with disabilities in the North. It is a Territory wide award.

The NWT Human Rights Commission Accessibility Award - This award is presented to a business in recognition of new or existing physical and/or non-physical accommodations that increase accessibility to services for the public. Community projects or services  that promote accessibility and inclusion of persons with disabilities are also considered for the award.
